Summary

The app has no accounts, no ads and no tracking across other companies' apps or websites. All content is bundled in the app and works offline. To improve the app, the iPhone version collects anonymous usage data with Google Analytics for Firebase. You can turn this off at any time in Settings › Privacy.

Anonymous usage data (analytics)

What is collected: which screens and content are opened (for example a book and chapter, a story, the map, the weekly portion), feature use (such as starting read-aloud or tapping the map), session length, the app's first launch, and general technical information: device model, OS version, app version and interface language. Google derives an approximate country or city from the IP address; the IP address itself is not stored in Google Analytics. Each installation gets a random Firebase identifier that does not identify you.

What is not collected: your name, email, phone number or any other identifying detail; the device's advertising identifier (IDFA); your precise location; your search terms; the content of your bookmarks.

Why: to understand how many people use the app and which parts, and to fix and improve it. The data is not used for advertising, not linked to your identity, not sold and not used for tracking.

Who processes it: Google LLC, as our processor (how Google uses data from partner apps). Data may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States.

Retention: event data is kept in Google Analytics for up to 14 months and then deleted.

Your choice: Settings › Privacy › “Share anonymous usage data”. Turning it off stops collection immediately and deletes the random identifier from your device. You can also email us to request access or deletion.

Stored on your device only

Preferences (language, font, voice and reading speed), bookmarks, chapters marked as read, your resume point and recent searches. This stays on your device and is never sent to us or any third party. Deleting the app deletes it; reading progress can also be reset in Settings.

Location

If you choose to show your location on the map, it is used on-device, in the moment, only to show nearby stories. It is not stored or transmitted, including to the analytics service. You can revoke permission anytime in your device settings.

Read-aloud

Read-aloud uses the device's built-in voices, on the device. No text is sent to an external service.

Android

The Android version does not currently collect usage data. If that changes, we will update this policy first.

External links

Some story sources link to external websites (e.g. Sefaria), which open in your browser under those sites' own privacy policies.

Children

The app is not specifically directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The anonymous usage data contains no identifying details.

Your rights

Under Israeli privacy law, the GDPR, and US and Canadian privacy laws, you may request access to, correction or deletion of data, and object to processing. We process usage data on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the app; you can object at any time with the switch in Settings.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
